In celebration of the our big 250, during the Fall 2026 term we will be focusing on music by American composers from the earliest days of the colonies to present day!
Directed by ILA Director Aidan Mays, The Living Music Youth Consort is a string ensemble where students learn and practice the historical traditions of music as a living art, taking Historically Informed Performance Practice (HIPP) not as just a style of playing, but as part of a stance from which all of our music can be approached. In accordance with this vision, we perform music from the Renaissance all the way through to the current day, aiming to develop virtuosity at our instruments, thoughtful and historically informed approaches to interpretation, and most importantly, fluency in the language of music.
The LMYC serves the Houston area, rehearsals will take place in the Woodlands, TX (just north of Houston).
Living Music Youth Consort - Our premiere ensemble, made up of a small number of highly capable students.
LMYC Preparatory Ensemble - Designed for students with the drive and enthusiasm we value, but who are still early in their musical journey. The Preparatory Ensemble has the same dynamic, living approach as our premiere ensemble, but focuses on building the foundational skills you’ll need to take your playing and musicianship to the next level.

Deadline: Please submit your application by September 7th. Late applications may be accepted at the discretion of the admissions committee.
Application Fee: We charge an application processing fee of $10 to compensate our admissions committee for review of student audition materials. Need-based fee wavers are available upon request. Please email aidan.c.mays@gmail.com after submitting your application if you are interested in a waiver.
